While the science center does not offer any on-site food, Downtown Hickory offers nearby dining options to help you plan a full day out.
Public Wi-Fi
Free public Wi-Fi is available throughout the SALT Block so you can stay connected during your visit.
First Aid & Defibrillator
First aid supplies and an AED defibrillator are on-site. Staff are ready to assist in the case of an emergency.

Our friendly staff and volunteers are available throughout the exhibits to answer questions, provide directions, and help make learning fun.

We want every visitor to feel comfortable and included. CSC offers dedicated sensory-friendly hours, check-out kits, and a private quiet space so every guest can enjoy science at their own pace.

Sensory Friendly Hours
What Is Sensory Friendly Hour?
Twice a week, our immersive exhibits are adjusted to be more accessible. Colored lights and motion are removed, overhead lights are turned on for a steady environment, and background sounds are turned off leaving only the educational content.
The time varies based on the current exhibit. Check our calendar for the latest schedule.
Sensory-Friendly Kits
Free backpacks are available for check out at any admission desk. Return to any desk before you leave. Each kit includes:
- Writing tablet
- Noise-canceling headphones
- Sunglasses
- Word cards
- Fidget toys
The Nest — A Quiet Space for All
Located inside the North Classroom near Carpenter Hall, The Nest is a private multi-use room available to visitors who need a sensory break. Please ask a CSC team member to unlock the room.
This space is designed for:
- Individuals needing a low-stimulation environment
- A private place for breastfeeding or pumping
- One family or group at a time as a private calm environment
Please keep noise to a minimum. Infant changing stations are available in the lobby restrooms.
